BRI's Highly-Anticipated Debut Single 'Shower Time' is Finally Released

Your new favourite Y2k Neo-Soul inspiration has arrived, and she's even got a debut single under her belt.

Birmingham-based artist, BRI, is fresh off the block with her debut single 'Shower Time' unleashed today. Encompassing 2000s R&B with the likes of the contemporary Neo-Soul artists, Jorja Smith and Joy Crookes, the track blends nostalgia with the modern-day's love of honest soul-speaking artists.

'Shower Time' is conversational, stripped back and the ideal soundtrack to a laid back Friday evening. With its addictively relaxed guitar-based instrumental, it is the ultimate wind-down record. Produced by producer-to-watch, yungsatane, it is also laced with hypnotising harmonies and a bed of hazy lo-fi beats. Whilst her lyricism is authentic and a sentiment of having a conversation with an old friend, it also creates beautiful metaphorical landscapes to muse on: "Like a flower flourished in the sweet sun / Like a butterfly / My life is a free run"

However, it is important not to overlook the message and motivations of BRI when appreciating her debut's dreamy aura. As a musician, BRI represents honesty and uplift. She is said to want to express the 'importance of empowerment and creativity' through her music and through this debut release she achieves just that. With its collision of bedroom lo-fi sounds to our precious memoirs of the likes of Lauryn Hill, it is a sound new to our ears.

As a new artist on the scene, BRI is the ideal independent genre-bending artist to stick your teeth into. With recognition from BBC Introducing, she is shoulder to shoulder with the likes of fellow Birmingham artists, The New Consistent and Lady Sanity. There is a true sense of fresh youthful talent amongst the West Midlands scene - something to jump into whilst these upcoming artists undoubtedly grow beyond their current exclusivity.

'Shower Time' is available now on all streaming platforms.
